Living in a city that is currently working itself into the position of national spotlight is great. With Barack Obama in office and a new Trump Tower, the US definitely has its nose pressed against the glass surrounding Chicago. And with that comes lot of great attention on the cultural happenings in Chicago, especially the music scene. With artists like The Cool Kids, Hollywood Holt and Kidz in the Hall starting to gain mainstream notoriety, the New School Hip-Hop scene in the city has been boosted. One of the young, talented artists that has gotten some much due attention from this is DJ/Producer Chaise Marcel, who has been an acquaintance of mine for about a year now. He is featured on the new DJ Benzi mixtape “DJ Benzi Presents: The US Open Amplitude Mixtape Hosted by Lil Jon” that you can download below. Chaise took some time out of his schedule to talk to DMPE about his recent success.

2008 was a dope year for you, being included with DJ Benzi’s mixtapes and having a plethora of remixes….Whats up for 2009, rumor is something about Britney Spears?
Thank you sir….. Haha. Yea…. Still a lil undecided on that project. Jive hasn’t given full confirmation etc on the decision yet. But if they do, you will def have a Britney x Chaise Marcel on your iTunes store
Anything coming up with Benzi? You guys seem to have made a good working connection.
Yea. Benzi is really supportive of my work. I greatly appreciate it. Tonight Benzi is releasing a brand new mixtape that I’m on…. There’s a remix on there that I did for The Cool Kids, and I’m the only producer/dj with the studio files to the original song. So its gonna sound dope. But nonetheless this release Is just another from many more to come w/ Benzi.
Are you working with any other mixtape Dj’s right now?
Not so much on the mixtape dj side… I’m working closely w/ my brother Mano on a couple new things that he and I are collabing on. I’ve been on a few other mixtapes tho aside Benzi’s.
You seem to always be twittering….I noticed you even twittered about this interview right now haha, when did you get bit by the Twitter bug?
Haha. Yea I think Twitter is a great way to keep people updated on things. I’m too lazy to write a blog unfortunately. So I try to announce every move I make via Twitter. I came to Twitter when the Stephen Colbert x Kanye Twitter situation happened. Saw alotta peeps I know were on there so I joined. Plus with me having 5000 friends on facebook thus getting 60 messages and invites per day, its like fresh air.
Haha yeah Facebook gets out of control sometimes with all that.

Who are you paying attention to on the music scene right now? Who’s about to break out?
Benzi put me on Mike Posner.. He’s got a good sound. I know Dave Coresh is about to shut some shit down. He Say, She Say’s music is really next level. Drake. Slot A’s production is cold. I would add Mic Terror to this list but I view him as beyond it so.. Haha. There’s alotta talent out here right now. This year should be interesting for music.

And Donnis. I kid you not. The stuff he’s about to hit yall with is in-sane.
Haha I used to think Donnis was Mano, as I’ve heard alot of people do.
Yea. And vice versa, Its because of the Cazal 858 x Swagger glasses they both got in Tokyo frm Big O
Haha what about the party scene? What happenings can someone find Chaise Marcel DJing at in the near future?
I DJ at Blue Star Lounge april 1st…. But I’ve been layin low due to production. Now that I’ve caught up with some projects I’m gonna go back into the clubs. You all can rest assure that “TREATED” as a collective will be DJng in your city much sooner than you think. Can’t give details on that but, let’s just say its not just a word anymore.
What were some of the craziest parties/nights you’ve recently DJd at?
As of recent , I did Jugrnaut’s 1Year Anniversary party. Madness. Capacity at like 11:30 and a crowd outside.
Yeah that party was pretty crazy, I heard alot of people got it in in the bathroom.
Haha. Didn’t even know about that one. I guess a deed was done on my part.
Haha is there anything you want to plug? Nows the time.
I have songs droppin this spring and summer by the ton. Mic T, Chip tha Ripper, Hollywood Holt, Dave Coresh, more benzi tapes, donnis. List is long. I’m planning to release a mixtape tht includes new and old remixes I did, cuz peeps are saying they want em in their ipods. The Treated DJs will be coming to numerous locations/cities. As well as my Dj duo with Mikey Rocks. Its a good year indeed for a “Noir Connoisseur” (hint).
